HAMP CREW has arrived at USRowing Youth Nationals
Sunday's Grand Final
What a wild ride this has been. The team was unsure of where they would place over all and was happy to just be there. Now the day of the big race is here and they made it all the way to the GRAND FINAL.
The day was hot and humid and the girls were all nerves. Sad to see it all come to an end but excited to get out there and see what was going to happen.
In a very close race Hamp came in just behind Long Beach to take 6th in the NATION! The race was remarkable and the girls pulled an eight minute flat. An 18 second improvement from their first heat.
The results:
Cincinnati Country Day School - 07:45:16
Holy Names Academy- 07:47:81
San Diego Rowing Club- 07:50:33
Nardin Academy- 07:51:29
Long Beach Junior Crew- 07:58:92
Northampton 08:00:1
Saturday
After a good night's rest the rowers left for the course eager to see what the day would bring. Saturday turned out to be sunny and 75 with a clam wind and water that was perfect for racing.
The woman set out with hopes of winning a spot in the A final. To do so they needed to beat three other boats, including Winsor, who placed first, 13 seconds ahead of Hamp, at Regionals.
In a tough Semi, Hamp beat out Texas, Manhassett, and just squeezed Winsor out of
third by .75 seconds. So HAMP will, in fact, be moving on to the A finals
at their first ever Youth Nationals Regatta. We are all so proud!

Coming in second in their noontime heat, they automatically qualified for tomorrow’s semi final.

Thursday
The day started at 3:30am as we all left for the airport.
The seven girls, coach, and parents set off at 5:50am for Cincinnati, OH.
After checking in to the hotel and getting a quick bite to eat
the team drove to the Regatta Site to get the day started.
It was a sight to behold, witnessing the first ever HAMP CREW rowers
shove off the dock onto the Youth Nationals course.
The girls ran through a race warm up and row over,
taking time to practice moves and sprints.
They all were starting to feel the fatigue of the day
but the second lineup, with the spares, launched to run through it all again.
Here is the list of progressions for the weekend:
Three heats – top two to semi, remaining to rep
Two reps – top three to semis, fourth – sixth to C final
Two semis – top three to A final, remaining to B final
