As I sit at my desk, I see the the first snowflakes starting to fall. It reminds me that we might just have some weather that will potentially effect practices. Hamp Crew's policy is that we cancel practice ONLY IF Northampton High School is closed or has an early dismissal. Please note that this does not mean that practice is cancelled if NHS has a day off for a teacher in-service day or holiday ONLY IF it is closed for weather. Additionally, you should make your own decisions based on what is safest for you and your family. On that note, I anticipate seeing many of you for practice this afternoon. Please be safe in your travels!
The Ergathon this Saturday, Feb 11 was a huge success! Rowers, families, and intrigued passersby stopped to row several hundreds or thousands of meters. The event also raised over $200 to help towards much-needed equipment. The Ergathon took place at Eastworks, Hamp Crew's winter location for indoor training called Crew "U." Every Tuesday and Friday adults from around the Pioneer Valley ventured out to start pulling hard at 6AM. The masters (adults) numbers have thus increased to the largest group NYCRI has ever had! Rowers will help heave the equipment out of Crew "U" and move it to AllSport where spring preseason will begin for youth and masters rowers starting on February 27.
Hamp Crew youth and masters will row towards 1,000,000 meters in an eight-hour period. Is it possible? With the awesome gang of women and men who have been hammering away all winter, spinning the erg, lifting weights, and staying fit it is certain. Come show your support and help donate to a good cause- Eastworks, First Floor 9AM-5PM Saturday, Feb. 11. All donations made on the Hamp Crew website or on the day will go towards much-needed equipment and the Easthampton Community Center.
The 6th Annual Wine Tasting and Silent Auction at the Sierra Grille was a huge success. We had the largest turnout, with members and people from the community who came to enjoy the awesomely delicious food and wines. The auction items boasted services such as acupuncture to gift baskets from top businesses in the Valley. The event raised $2000, which will go towards financial aid. Many thanks to all who helped make this event a success. Please visit The Sierra Grille on your next dinner out!
Due to extremely icy conditions, Crew U will be cancelled tomorrow (Tues, 1/24) for the AM Group. The PM Erg Team will still be on in the afternoon. For anyone who does travel, use caution!
Starting THIS TUESDAY 1/17 at Crew "U" will be "Tough-it-out Tuesdays" from 2:30-4PM. Five weeks and only one day per week to help you get back in rowing shape. Prepare to get sweaty and have a lot of fun with your teammates. Experienced Novices welcome- please email Kristina beforehand. $50 for non-Crew U members and $20 for Crew U members!!
The 6th Annual Wine Tasting will take place at Sierra Grille on January 29, 2012 from 3-5PM. Along with great wines from around the world to taste, there will be a silent auction and wonderful appetizers made in-house. Tickets are $25, at the door. All proceeds go directly to the youth financial aid fund. Please email Kristina@hampcrew.com if you would like to donate an item or service for the auction. See you there!

Hamp Crew lost an integral member of its community this weekend. Brenda Wolfe, Masters Rower and volunteer, passed away on Sunday morning. Brenda started with Pioneer Valley Women's Rowing and continued to compete with Northampton Youth and Community Rowing, Inc, when PVWR joined forces with the Masters Team out of the Oxbow. She was a fierce competitor who was passionate about crew. She made many close, deep friendships over the years with her rowing teammates. Brenda was vacationing with her partner and other rowing friends in India when she became ill. There will be more information about how Hamp Crew will celebrate her life and her contributions to the team as a rower, longest-standing bookkeeper for the club, and friend as we learn more and can share.
