by youth captains Maggie White, Christopher West, Matthew Jordan, Sofia Triana This week, now more than halfway through the season, practices picked up pace and crews began to focus on more technical details. The varsity squads spent time with Kevin and Sandra, rowing longer pieces at higher ratings in preparation for Lawrence and future regattas. Novice squads were able to get out on the water every day due to the overall nice weather, but also put aside some time to spend on the ergs refining their technique with coaching from Betsy. Everyone was happy when the new dock setup was completed on Thursday, and although docking and maneuvering on it will take some adjusting to, its benefits are already noticeable. On Friday, we were able to get some last-minute practice in before loading up the trailer for a great regatta in Lawrence.

On Saturday, April 30, our team competed in a dual-meet with the Greater Lawrence Rowing Association at their boathouse in Lawrence, Massachusetts. The weather was sunny and warm, and the water was perfectly calm. Our two novice girls 8+s raced in the same event, finishing in first and third place. The novice boys also raced in two 8+s, finishing in first and third in their event as well. The varsity girls had a busy day racing five boats in three events. In the first varsity 4+, the varsity girls finished in second place. Our two boats competing in the second and third varsity 4+ combined event finished in third and fourth place. In the varsity girls 8+ event, our two boats finished in second and third place. The varsity boys enjoyed a successful day of racing, finishing in third place in the 4+ and winning the 8+ race. For the whole team, this regatta provided an opportunity to practice racing before we attend the larger and more competitive races in the coming weeks.
