YOUTH SUMMER PROGRAMMING

2017 Summer Youth Programs begin in mid June and end in Mid August.  Summer Youth Programming consists of both Learn-to-Row sessions for new rowers, as well as competitive opportunities for experienced rowers.


Youth Learn-to-Row 

Youth Learn to Row Programs at Northampton Community Rowing are one-week, intensive youth rowing classes which teach young athletes in grades 6 and above the basics of the sport, from terminology to boat handling and of course, rowing!  

SESSION 1 IS JUNE 27- July 3

SESSION 2 IS July 10 - July 14

SESSION 3 IS July 24- July 28

 

Fee: $150

  • Youth Learn to Row - M/T/W/Th/F 9:00 a.m.-noon.

 

Youth Advanced Learn-t0-Row

Advanced Learn to Row is open to athletes who have participated in a learn to row either at NCR or another club/program, and are interested in continuing with the sport. Session is 4 classe per week for 3 weeks and focus on improving technique and working to improve technical proficiency and fitness.

Session is August 1 - August 19  

Fee: $175

  • Youth Intermediate - M/T/W/Th 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.

 

Youth Summer Competitive Team

The Youth Summer Competitive Team is for members of our Spring and Fall Racing Team, graduates of the Summer Advanced Learn to Row or athletes who have participated in high school crew and is 24 sessions over six weeks..  This program will focus on advanced technical proficiency and fitness and will include several optional regattas.

Session is July 10 - August 18 

Fee: $300

ADULT SUMMER PROGRAMMING

The 2017 Adult Summer Season starts on May 22, and runs through September 1.  Summer Adult Programming consists of Learn-to-Row sessions for new rowers, as well as intermediate, advanced and competitive (racing) opportunities for experienced rowers.


ADult LEARN TO ROW

This program is for brand new rowers who have no previous experience rowing.  Sessions consist of 4 weeks of 3 classes per week (12 classes total.) There are both morning and evening sessions to choose from.

SESSION 1 IS June 11 - JULY 7

SESSION 2 IS August 7 - September 1

FEE $225

  • Morning Learn to Row - T/Th/F from 6:00am - 7:30am
  • Evening Learn to Row - M/W/F from 6:00pm - 7:30pm

ADult Beginning Sculling

This class is for those who would like to learn sculling and have no previous experience rowing or sculling. This class is taught in small groups.

SESSION 1 IS May 23 - JUne 8

SESSION 2 IS July 11 - July 27

FEE $200

  • Beginning Sculling T/Th from 5:30am - 7:30am

adult INTERMEDIATE Rowing

The Intermediate program is for rowers who have graduated from the Learn-to-Row program or who have previous experience sweep rowing.  Sessions are 3 classes per week for 8 weeks. There are both morning and evening sessions to choose from. 

SESSION 1 IS MAy 22 - July 7

SESSION 2 IS July 10 - September 1

FEE $250

  • Morning Intermediate - T/Th/F from 5:30am - 7:30am
  • Evening Intermediate - T/Th/F from 6:00pm - 8:00pm

adult ADVANCEd/RAcing Teams

The Advanced and Racing Teams are for those who have gained proficiency in rowing through our Intermediate Rowing program, or who have previous experience racing.   This session is 15 weeks (45 classes). These two programs often practice together with a focus on performance and conditioning.  Racing Team members also participate in local and regional regattas.

Youth Fall Programming

Youth Fall programs are for any area High School or Middle School student. The program is geared toward introducing new rowers to the sport, as well as long distance Head-style races for the Varsity.  


The 2017 Youth Spring Season starts on August 21 with Varsity Practice. Middle School and Novice join the ranks on September 5.  Fall racing focuses on 3-5 mile head style races, with the final regatta of the regular season being the Head of the Fish in Saratoga Springs on October 29th. 

 

THE YOUTH FALL PROGRAM CONSISTS OF 5 SQUADS:

  • Girls Varsity

  • Boys Varsity

  • Girls Novice

  • Boys Novice

  • Middle School Sculling

Fall Novice rowers are primarily those wh0 are new to the sport.  No experience is necessary to join. All new rowers start with the basics and learn with others who are also new to the sport for their first year.  Novice and varsity rowers should arrive on time for practice and should let their coach know if they are going to miss practices or races.

Middle School Sculling introduces the sport of rowing to 6th to 8th graders. This is a less strenuous program focusing on technique and fun. We will scrimmage with each other and with local clubs.

Adult Fall Programming

Adult Fall programs are designed to take advantage of the great weather and slow moving river (not to mention the fall colors!)  Competitive opportunities are focused on long distance Head-style races.  In the fall there are racing opportunities for Intermediate rowers as well as Advanced and Racing Teams.

YouTH Winter TRaining

Youth Winter Training Starts November 13.  Winter Training is strongly encouraged for current and future Varsity rowers who are not participating in a winter sport at their school.  Up and coming Novices rowers are welcome and encouraged to participate as well. 

The focus of these sessions is to improve overall strength and endurance, strengthen core and improve flexibility with the goal of improving on-the-water performance.  The coaches will be using the ergometer in conjunction with stretching, circuits and weight training.

 

All sessions are 6 weeks

FeeS: $50 (1 per week), $130 (3 per week) $200 (5 per week)

  • Session 1: November 13,2017 – December 22, 2017                                  
  • Session 2: Jan 1, 2018 – February 9, 2018

Youth Winter Training Sessions available M-F from 3:30 - 5:30

Adult Winter Training

NCR is excited to offer Indoor Training through the winter! Participating in Indoor Training is the best way to ensure that our team is faster and stronger next year!

Morning Indoor Training Sessions are Monday to Friday from 6:00am-7:30am and will be Coached by Sandra Bucan.

Evening Indoor Training Sessions are Tuesday/Thursday/Friday from 6:00pm – 7:30pm, evening sessions will be coached by Robert Englehardt.

Pay to come 1x, 3x or 5x per week.  

Mix and match AM and PM to suit your schedule.

Youth Spring Programming

The 2017 Youth Spring Season starts indoors on March 27, and transitions outdoors as soon as weather permits. Spring racing focuses on 2000 meter races, with the final race of the regular season being the North East Championships on May 20 & 21.  Boats from Northampton which qualify at Regionals will have the option of rowing at Nationals in early June.

 

The Youth Spring Program consists of 5 squads:

  • Girls Varsity

  • Boys Varsity

  • Girls Novice

  • Boys Novice

  • Middle School Sculling

 

Spring Novice rowers are primarily those wh0 participated in the Youth Fall Program.  There are limited opportunities for new rowers to join in the Spring season, please contact the Program Director for more information. Middle School Sculling is not expected to participate in races, and has less stringent attendance requirements.

The Intermediate program is for rowers who have graduated from the Learn-to-Row program or who have previous experience rowing.  Session are 7 weeks of 3 classes per week (21 classes total.) There are both morning and evening sessions to choose from.

Advanced and RAcing Teams

The Advanced and Competitive programs are for those who have gained proficiency in rowing through our Intermediate Rowing program, or who have previous experience racing.   These two programs often practice together with a focus on performance and conditioning in preparation for the main racing season which starts in June.
